BPG offers Fitness for PDSM classes because it is just as important for persons with PD to get fit as it is for virtually everyone—and current research suggests it may be especially helpful in controlling PD symptoms and the progression of the disease. Feeling fit feels good.
Twice a week participants gather in the new, state of the art Long Island University Wellness Center for aerobics, stretching and strengthening, using gym equipment and machines, supervised by a trained fitness instructor and Long Island University Sports Sciences and Physical Therapy students.
Brooklyn Parkinson Group developed these special Fitness for PDSM classes in collaboration with the Long Island University Sports Sciences and Physical Therapy departments. Leader in this collaboration is Carroll Neesemann, BPG Board member and participant. Carroll became certified as a Fitness Trainer, in 2008.
